Explore the Bible Study and Video: Saved

8:05 PM

We have all heard numerous stories of medical personnel who have volunteered to help during this COVID-19 pandemic – doctors, nurses, EMS personnel. Have you ever wondered why people are willing to offer such unprecedented help? What motivates them to place themselves in uncomfortable and, at times, risky situations in order to save others? Their example should motivate us to examine our passion for seeking out the lost so that they might be saved. This will be examined in this week's Explore the Bible Study and Video: Saved.

As you plan to help your group engage with the Scriptures, help them to examine all the amazing volunteers who are helping on the frontlines of this COVID-19 pandemic. Then help them to look at Paul's message in Romans 10:5-15 and how it should motivate us to share the gospel with others.

As you guide your group to study Paul’s words in chapter 10, challenge them to examine their own faith. Is it truly based upon faith in Jesus Christ alone, or are they trying to earn it through religious activity, good living, or some other means? If they believe they are saved, consider their attitude toward those who don’t know Christ. Do they keep their faith to themselves or do they take the risk to step out and offer the gospel to those around them who so desperately need to be saved?

From frontline workers to volunteers at food banks, to helping the elderly, to practicing safe distancing guidelines, we are all trying to do our part. We should be equally as passionate about sharing the Good News of Jesus with others. We laud the accomplishments of the doctors and other volunteers, as we should, but Paul lauded an even more valuable cause by stating, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news."

How sad it would be if we saved thousands from COVID-19 only to see them die one day, never knowing about salvation through Jesus Christ. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army probably stated it best, “To get a man soundly saved, it’s not enough to put on him a new pair of pants, to give him regular work, to even to give that man a university education, [or might I add, to save him from COVID-19]. These are all outside of a man. And if the inside remains unchanged, you have wasted your labor.”
